We have to admit we have somewhat of a sweet tooth, and when the craving strikes, we can’t help ourselves! Thankfully, Seville is a city full of pastry shops, and the selection of sweets and cakes is incredible.

One of our favorite things to stumble across are the incredible pastry shops. The sweets are delicious, and there is almost always a tradition behind them. Of course, the pastries in Seville are no exception – although it is easy to be confused with so many choices. So, in no particular order, here are our picks for the five best pastry shops in Seville.

1. La Campana

This is one of our personal favorite pastry shops in Seville. Located in the heart of the city, this is an emblematic shop with delicious cakes. The plaza is great for people watching, and we love the way the inside of the place looks like it hasn’t changed in years, with dark wood details and beautiful glass cases showing off all the delicious sweets. You should also note that La Campana makes savory treats, too. If you aren’t sure, ask the people behind the counter – they usually have great suggestions, and quite frankly, you can’t go wrong!

What to try: Torrijas (the Spanish version of french toast bathed in honey or sugar), or black forest cake. If you want something savory, go for the sandwich mixto (ham and cheese sandwich) or the empanadillas de atún (little tuna empanadas)

Address: Calle Sierpes 1

"Best

2. Horno San Buenaventura

Horno San Buenaventura serves up some of the best pastries in Seville and it is conveniently located near the Cathedral. This pastry shop has been around since the 14th century in one form or another and is one of many great places to have breakfast in the city. There is something special about eating the little magdalenas, unwrapping their distinctive white and blue paper to enjoy the delicious spongy muffin inside with a delicious cup of coffee. They are also experts in polvorones (a typical crumbly cookie) at Christmas time.

What to try: the magdalenas (muffins) are a highlight but all the cakes are amazing!

Address: Plaza de la Alfalfa, 7

3. Ofelia Bakery

Ofelia is an adorable little bakery in Alfalfa neighborhood with heavenly cake! Everything in here is pastel colored and delicious. It’s a little newer than some of the others on the list, but no less of a favorite! Chat to the friendly staff about taking pastry courses or just sit and have a coffee! (They also do take away, which is hard to find in Seville!

What to try: Honestly, all the cupcakes are incredible – you can’t go wrong here!

Address: Cuesta del Rosario, 16-B

4. Manu Jara

Just across the Isabell II bridge in Triana, you will find the Manu Jara bakery. It is one of the best pastry shops in Seville, which you can tell as soon as you start to look at the delicacies in the window. They don’t have as much variety as some other bakeries, but they make up for it in quality. This is a place you will stumble upon as you wander around Triana, but you will make sure to come back to visit again!

What to try: the napolitana de chocolate (chocolate filled croissant) or the trenza (a braided flaky pastry).

Address: Calle Pureza 5

"Best

5. Convento de San Leandro

One of the traditions in Seville has always been to go and buy sweets from the nuns in the different convents of the city. At first, it was only done at Christmas time, but now you can buy the delicious sweets year round. Every convent has their own specialty, so depending on which pastry or sweet treat you are looking for, you might have to go to a different convent. One of our favorites has always been the Convent of Saint Leandro. It is found in the historic district of the city and it’s been around since the year 1295. I’d say they know a little something about making dessert!

What to try: yemas (a sweet made with egg yolk, sugar and some lemon juice. Simple and delicious.)
